Group of 3, Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 3 clasps “Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Johannesburg (Cpl.), King’s South Africa Medal 1901-1902
2 clasps “South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902” (Sgt.), Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal George V “Field Marshal’s bust, swivel suspender” (Colour Sgt.) named to 2504 E. W. Crosbie, Norfolk Regiment, later Quarter Master and Captain. A medal Index Card for Ernest William Crosbie exists but it shows no entitlement to WW1 medals, it does show service with the Norfolk Regt. as a Lt. & Qr. Mr. and as Flying Officer R.A.F.). With copied extracts from the London Gazette and the M.I.C.

Group of 3, Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 2 clasps “Cape Colony, South Africa 1901” (Yeoman of Signals, H.M.S. “Terpsichore”), Africa General Service Medal 1902-1956 clasp “Jubaland” (2nd Yeoman of Signals, H.M.S. “Terpsichore”) , Royal Fleet Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal George V “Admirals Bust” (171618 CH. A. 3069 Chief Yeoman of Signals) all medals named to W. H. Forder. William Herbert Forder was born on 10 December 1877 in Norfolk and was a “Baker” by trade when he joined the Royal Navy on 10 December 1895. He was serving on “Tepsichore” when he qualified for the Q.S.A. and A.G.S. “Jubaland” (45 to the ship). He served on H.M.S. “Blenheim” from 23 April 1914 to 30 September 1916, “Blenheim” went to Mudros in 1915 so presumably he is entitled to a 1914-15 trio.
With copied service papers.

Pair, Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902 3 clasps “Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal”, Kings South Africa Medal 1901-1902, 2 clasps “South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902” named to 6370 Private R. Robinson, East Lancashire Regiment. Copies of the rolls for the 1st Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment confirm both medals and the K.S.A. roll shows he was a Militia Reservist of the 3rd Border Regt.

HARRY SIDNEY BARRETT
Commissioned Gunner (Torpedo), later Commissioned Electrical Officer (L) H S Barrett, Royal Navy, HMS Charity and finally, Electrical Lieut-Commander (L) et al.
Harry Sidney Barrett originally enlisted into the Royal Navy as P/JX.132317. He followed the promotion chain of the Gunnery Branch (Torpedo), through Leading Hand, Torpedo Gunner’s Mate etc, until being commissioned as Gunner (Torpedo) towards the end of the war.
He was to serve aboard several vessels through the 1939-45 War including;
HMS Skate (1917) ‘H39’ 3 Sep 1939 – 9 Jul 1940
At outbreak of war, HMS Skate was the Royal Navy’s only remaining 3-funnelled destroyer. During subject period served as Escort to 1st Minelaying Squadron during the laying of the Northern Barrage, as North-West Approaches Convoy Escort and Convoy Defence Duty to Convoy ’SA 017’. Battle Honour ‘Atlantic, 1940-44’.

HMS Collingwood(?) 6 Aug 1940 – 7 Nov 1941
‘Special Service’ 8 Nov 1941 – 7 Jul 1942
HMS Scout (1918) ‘H51’ 8 Jul 1942 – 25 Oct 1944
Throughout subject period HMS Scout served as Indian Ocean Convoy Escort. Heavily used, she was sent in 1944 for refit and repair but found beyond economic completion and scrapped in 1946.
HMS Vernon 26 Oct 1944 – 4 Apr 1945
HMS Charity (1944) ‘R29’ 5 Apr 1945 – ‘Palestine 1945-48’ campaign.
HMS Charity for ‘Palestine 1945-48’, during which she active with the RN Patrol Palestine, interdicting arms and refugee ships. During the confrontation, HMS Charity served in:
– 14th Destroyer Flotilla from 2 Feb 1946 – 2 Jun 1946 and
- 1st Destroyer Flotilla from 30 Aug 1946 – Feb 1947
In Apr 1947, HMS Charity was badly damaged interdicting the ‘President Warfield’ and forced to undergo extensive repairs. The three RN ships and their boarding parties came under sustained attack boarding and taking control of the vessel which had been specifically fitted out to frustrate the attempts. Three fatalities occurred during this sustained action.

H S Barrett was commissioned from Snr Cd Elec Offr (L) to Lt (L) with effect from 1 Apr 1956 (London Gazette 10 Aug 1956, page 4596)
He retired as Elec Lieut-Commander with effect from 22 Dec 1961 (London Gazettes 17 Nov 1961, page 8344 and 19 Dec 1961, page 9214, refer.).

Group of 6, 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star, Italy Star, 1939-45 War Medal, Naval General Service Medal 1915-1962 George VI clasp “Minesweeping 1945-51” named to P/KX.97336 Petty Officer Stoker Mechanic G. W. Carlton, R.N. The WW 2 medals are unnamed and mounted on a bar as worn, the N.G.S.M. has its named box of issue and addressed envelope, the recipient lived in Fareham, Hampshire.

Condition: Good V.F. to Near E.F.some verdigris on the Pacific Star.
