Frederick Waddell was born on 2 February 1871 at Billiston, Kent and was a “Baker” when he joined the Royal Navy on 8 May 1893, being discharged by purchase on 3 December 1897.

Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 5 clasps “Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902” named to Lieutenant A. W. White, 21st Btn., Imperial Yeomanry. Alfred William White was 35 years of age and serving as a Captain in the 4th Volunteer Battalion of the South Wales Borderers when he attested for service in the Imperial Yeomanry on the 16 February 1901.
With copied “Attestation” papers and extracts from the London Gazette.

France, Italy Campaign 1859.
FRANCE - Italy Campaign Medal 1859 by Barre.

Instituted 11th August 1859, for award to members of the French expedition to Italy 1859. It is believed 120000 medals were issued.
The medal: 30mm diameter, silver, with the head of Napoleon III on the obverse with the inscription : NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR all within a wreath. Reverse: the inscription CAMPAGNE D'ITALIE over the battle honours: MONTEBELLO PALESTRO TURBIGO MAGENTA MARIGNAN SOLFERINO and the date 1859 under.

France, Tonkin Medal 1883-1885, Naval type with 7 Battle Honours
FRANCE - Tonkin Medal 1883-1885.

Instituted on the 6th September 1885, and awarded to the army and navy who served in the 1884 - 1885 campaign in north-eastern Indochina (north Vietnam) .
Description: silver, 30mm diameter, the suspension is in the form of an olive and ring. The obverse depicts 'la Republique' wearing a winged helmet with the legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE. This is framed by a raised laurel wreath design around the perimeter. The engraver's signature "Daniel Dupuis" is at 5 o'clock. The reverse lists in the central area the battle honours; six for the army issue and seven for the navy issue. This central area is surrounded by the inscription TONKIN CHINE ANNAM 1883 - 1885. Around the perimeter is the raised laurel wreath design.
